While I was off camping on a ‘Secluded’ beach, I got several ideas for new scores, so don’t be surprised if you notice me scoring a lot the next couple of days!

Let me know what you think about this score! While listening to it, you might want to use headphones or extra speakers, it can be hard to hear.

New Score; Eldritch! & Updates

darkminds3600

Hey everyone! Just yesterday I was working as a PA for the casting call for the film ‘Dark Minds.’ My job was to take people’s names down, make sure they were organized and in a line to wait for their turn to audition, and I had a blast. Today I received an email from the director, Kevin DiBacco, and he has asked me to score the film! I read the script the instant I got it and I’m very excited. It’s a great opportunity. So when you all get the time, check out DiBacco Films website @ http://filmakerim.tripod.com/darkmindsthemovie.html and read about the film, ‘Dark Minds!’ It’ll be an exhilarating and enticing film to watch, so I’ll keep you all updated on where you can get it once it’s finished!

On another note, I created a score recently called Eldritch. Yet again, it’s not for anything specific, but I’d like some feedback on it because it’s very different. People tell me it sounds like pirate music, gypsy music, creepy and weird music, cartoon-ish music. So let me know what you think! I want the people’s opinion!

My New Score “The Operative!”

So recently I’ve been working on a feature length film that I told you about before that’s called “It’s A Terrible Week For Singing.” I am basically done the songs for it, but the Director and I are still going over rough patches that need fixing.

On an awesome note! I just created this new score today that has been in my head for about a week or two, I sat down today for about 2 hours and knocked it out! I feel as though it’s one of my best scores so far. It’s meant for a possible chase or fight scene. I see it being used as a theme for something too. Please, please, please let me know what you think! All criticism is welcome! I’m a very laid back person, and I will take all comments, whatever they may be, gracefully.

‘It’s A Terrible Week For Singing’ & Scoring Competitions

Kat1_small

So lately things have been a little bit crazy, but not crazy enough! At least not for me! I’ve been working on some great things lately for two film scoring competitions and I am currently working on scoring for the feature length film ‘It’s A Terrible Week For Singing.’ Since I’ve only worked on short length films, it’s a little different working on a feature, but so far, it’s easier than I thought it would be. I am unable at the moment to say more about the film, except that it is a musical, a funny one at that, because the director is hoping to use it for film festivals. I wish Evan Mills the best of luck! So far it’s been great working with him and Mario Quatraro. They’ve been very professional and always answers an email almost as soon as I send one! Great people to work with.

I recently worked with the director Steve Keider to create my composer reel. If you notice at the top of this page to the left, there is a tab that says ‘reel.’ That’s where you’ll find it if you’d like to take a look at it and check it out! Let me know if you have any suggestions.

I told you all about the film competition where I have to score a superman fan film, which is extremely exciting, but the other one that I just sent in for recently is even more exciting. It’s another competition in Ohio through the Ohio Philharmonic Orchestra. The competition just started last year in 2011, which is pretty new. What I had to do was create a Composer Reel for it and the judges view the reels. They then choose 20 film makers and 20 film composers to randomly pair up and collaborate and work together. After about 17 days of composing, the judges pick the final 6-8 teams and the composers than have to write out the parts and print them for the Ohio Philharmonic Orchestra. Their music is performed live by the Orchestra during a concert while the films are also shown. In other words, it’s kind of like what you would see if you go to a John Williams concert.

‘Superman’ Fan Film!

SupermanReturnsShield1

Hey everyone! So a couple of months ago I came across a film scoring competition that’s happening at the Indie Film Gathering in Cleveland, Ohio, while looking for film scoring competitions and conventions. I created the basic layout for it about a month or two ago, but it’s getting down to the deadline because it’s actually due by June 1. I just finished my first year of college at Columbia College Chicago, and as of right now I’m actually in Ohio, I’ll be here for two weeks, and I’m planning on finishing my score here. The film to be scored is actually a ‘Superman’ fan film trailer. All I know about the end results if you win is that you can get signed with a film company for a year which is pretty awesome. I’m hoping I can possibly get the score done by the end of this week. Sadly, I don’t believe I’ll be able to post up my finished product on here until after I find out what the results are of the competition. But wish me luck! I’m sure I’ll need it. There was a film competition for a horror film recently through the Indie Gathering and there were people who did it from all over the world. It will be extremely interesting to see if I get the right feel and emotion and end product that the director might want. So yet again, wish me luck everyone! I’ll keep everyone updated, and I’ll try to get a new score up as soon as possible!

Award Winning Film ’60 BPM’

Screen shot 2012-05-04 at 1.05.39 AM

Hey everyone! One of the films I scored, ’60 BPM,’ just won an award tonight! Big Congratulations to Jordan Blazak for filming this awesome film in two weeks and winning the award! The film will be shown at the 2013 Akron Film & Pixel Festival! Check out the film below! You can check out Jordan’s other films on Vimeo. Scoring ’60 BPM’

mail

’60 BPM’ is a short film directed by Jordan Blazak. It’s about a teenage girl that lives her life at 60 beats per minute. Meaning, she walks at 60 BPM, breathes at 60 BPM, taps her pencil at 60 BPM, etc. For the score, Jordan just wanted strings and a piano, and that turned out to be the perfect instruments for his film since at one point, the main character would be playing a classical song on piano. If the score had any more instruments in it, it would probably be too overwhelming. I created the score at 60 BPM and linked it up with the girls steps and tapping of a pencil. At the beginning of the film when the girl is waking up, she hits her alarm clock, and that’s right when I bring the piano into the score with the strings as a basis keeping up the 60 BPM.

This film was very different from the other films that I have scored because it’s not fantastical or heroic. What I mean by that, is that the film isn’t about a girl with magical powers or a man leaving a shelter after 20 years. It was a more laid back film to score. This film was actually a little bit tougher than the other films. It was hard to figure out what the right ‘genre’ of music the score should be. After figuring out what the right genre was, the film took only about an hour to two hours to score. Since the film is only about 4 minutes long, and the film is very driven by music, it doesn’t have a moment where there is no music.

New Score Coming Soon!

Watch out for my new score that I am working on currently! I should either have it done by tonight or tomorrow night at the latest. I’ve had this idea for a while, it’s not for any specific thing, just something I’ve been thinking about. Please let me know what you think of it when you check it out!

Thanks again!
