I have surfed and windsurfed the beautiful, blue waves of Hawaii. I have tried slimy, appetizing escargot in a quaint restaurant on the old, telltale streets of Quebec. I have had eel and sushi in Miami, and octopus and calamari in my amazing home state of Maine. I have snowboarded steep slopes on the breathtaking mountains of Maine. I am not a person that is scared to try new things, but rather a person that is scared they won’t learn and try enough.

My name is Katrina Marie Zemrak, a current student at Columbia College Chicago. My hometown is the small, not well known place, Winslow, Maine, which is about an hour away from Portland, Maine.

I am the rhythm, the beat, the composer, the conductor, the musical director, the movement, the instrumentalist, and the maestro of my musical creations and of my own life. I achieve my goals only to find more challenging and heightening ones to fulfill my lust, love, and need for music. I have played bass guitar in three broadway musical reviews, two professional musicals, four school based musicals, one African American spirituals concert, and a couple of pop and jazz bands. I have also composed a jazz tune for a band to perform, and I have scored six short films and one feature length film. I’d like to consider myself knowledgeable and well rounded to many different kinds of music, but I will never be satisfied because I know my knowledge can and will always expand.

I blame my family, especially my father, who never seems to stop learning artistic things. There is always talk of music, art, or film in my house, and it has always fascinated me and made me want to take a step in every artistic direction in order to solidify my own artistic path.

My passion is music; it is my soul, my pain, my suffering, my air, my breath, my need, my happiness, and my life. But I am also passionate for film, which is the area in which some of my family members work. I have combined those two passions of mine to create what my objective in life is; film scoring.

My vision. A blacked out scene rolls to a romantic, horror, comedic, action, adventure, dramatic, fantasy, or science fiction scene. The music; the pulse, the rhythm, the part that makes people feel the movie, connect with the movie, that will be mine. Not because I want my name up on the screen, not because I want fame or fortune, not because I want the satisfaction of laughing in others faces saying “Ha, I did this,” like so many others might, but because I want to put the emotion into the movie. I want the people in their theatre seats to feel what the characters feel. I want the people to watch the movie, notice all of it’s contents as a whole, but notice the emotion of it, and being a film scorer, that’s where my job comes in.

My name is Katrina Zemrak, I am passionate about music and film, and I am film composer, but only for the satisfaction of making an audience feel emotion, helping make a picture be the best that it can be, and  for my own need to compose.
